Agriculture-Chemicals/Pesticides
Welcome to the Pesticides, Herbicides & Insecticides Section of the ADC Website.
The are many EPA laws regulating or banning some of these poisons. Other laws are weak and/or non-existent. You can check the California EPA Webstite for more information on any of these toxics.
The PDF files with the Prefix 8A through 8Z below contain some information which relates to the impact of these toxics on Honey Bees and Other Pollinators. Some of these toxics are used in Agriculture, on our lawns and garden, in the products we buy for our pets...the list is a long one. The labels are important and most of us don't read the labels before buying a product. We falsely believe that as long as a product is found on a supermarket or hardware store shelf (any type of store), that they are safe for use in your home, garden, yard, and around your children which play in those areas.
In order to protect our pollinators and our children we need to start reading the labels on these toxics and avoid the ones that are toxic. We need to know that many companies that spray our homes for pests use these same toxic chemicals and we should make sure that we protect our children and pets from these types of exposures.
We hope that you will find the information below of value to you in protecting your living environment and the environment of the pollinators that we need to pollinate most of the foods that we eat.

DAS-40278-9 Corn: For Public Comment
U.S.D.A APHIS is also making available today a PPRA and a draft EA to address a request from Dow, Inc. seeking a determination of nonregulated status of its DAS-40278-9 corn. This corn has been genetically engineered to provide tolerance to 2,4-D and aryloxyphenoxypropionate (AOPP) acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase) inhibitors, also known as “fop” herbicides. DAS-40278-9 corn has been field tested in the major corn growing regions of the continental United States as well as Hawaii. APHIS’ risk assessment indicates that DAS-40278-9 corn is unlikely to pose a plant pest risk. APHIS is making available for public comment the Dow petition for nonregulated status, APHIS’ PPRA and draft EA. These documents can be found at:
http://www.aphis.usda.gov/biotechnology/news.shtml
The public comment period will close on Feb. 27, 2012.

"Chemical Toxic to Bees & Fish" & May Cause Asthma
By RYAN OWENS
"...Dallas has launched an aerial attack against the West Nile virus, sending two small planes to blanket the city with mosquito-killing pesticides but prompting at least one doctor to advise at-risk residents to leave town to escape the mist. The planes sprayed pesticides during the overnight hours in North Texas' latest war on the mosquito population..."
