Welcome to the "Plumas Skywatch" Home Page (Plumas County, California)
Hi Everyone:
Welcome to our Plumas County Skywatch Page, my name is Margan. My friends and I started looking into the many issues facing this world, our state, and our local community here in Plumas County about 10 years ago. We currently reside in the north western part of Plumas County, namely Lake Almanor and the Chester area.
Our Main Industries here are Timber and Logging. Collins Pine Company is the largest employer and alleged to be the largest polluter here in Chester, CA. Terry Collins also generates power for Pacific Gas & Electric. PG&E owns this town, and is the Largest Taxpayer in our County as stated in a Board of Supervisors Meeting; when we asked for assistance in getting PG&E to stop Cloud Seeding here at Lake Almanor. We have a lot of information with regard to PG&E's Cloud Seeding Program located here.
Please feel free to leave any comments or suggestions by sending an E-Mail to me. I'm new to adding input, etc. on this website so I'm open to all suggestions. E-Mail: plumasskywatch@gmail.com
Plumas County is a small rural area which hosts beautiful countryside, The Sierra Cascade Mountains, Lake Almanor, The Feather River, and The Lassen Volcanic Region. Lake Almanor is a hot tourist destination in the summer months and our population grows in the summer months from approximately 900+/- residents to over 3000+/- seasonal residents.
The North Fork of the Feather River feeds into Lake Almanor, which provides water to roughly 3 to 4 million people in California, is owned and operated by P.G.&E. (More on this later...)
The county offers a quality of life unmatched by other areas in the United States and is widely considered one of the most progressive counties in the state. The population of the county has diminished in the past year, because lack of employment and other local issues. It stands at approximately 20,000 residents.
The U.S. National Forests cover over 70% of its area. Many acres forest land acres are privately owned by local timber companies, Sierra Pacific Industries, The Collins Company, and others. Some of these Lumber Mills also generate wholesale electricity for P.G.&E, through Biomass or burning of other fuels.
We have a lot to speak about, so stay tuned and feel free to E-Mail any questions, comments, input you have, or news you would like reported.
Thanks so much for stopping by & Welcome to Plumas County Skywatch!
